How to Boost Volume on a Chromebook Beyond Maximum

Is your Chromebook not loud enough? This is a common problem with a lot of these computers, including some of the Chromebooks available right now, like the Asus Flip C302.

Here’s how you can resolve the problem by turning up a Chromebook’s volume beyond its maximum level.

Can you boost Volume on a Chromebook?

You may be wondering how the loudness might increase beyond its limit. Well, it all has to do with software.

Speakers have a greater volume than what you can hear. However, just because they can increase the volume does not guarantee that the sound will remain clear.

When a company creates a laptop, it evaluates the highest volume that the speakers can reach while maintaining pitch-perfectness.

This article will demonstrate software tools that instruct the computer to increase the loudness. This implies that you may probably hear a decrease in audio quality, often as distortion and crackling.

Attention: Turning up certain speakers beyond their maximum volume may cause harm. Use these tools with caution.

Note: Even though Chromebooks can run Android applications, the finest equalizer apps for Android won’t work on Chromebooks.

How to boost Volume in the Chrome browser

The Chrome browser is where you spend the majority of your time on a Chromebook. A simple addon called Ears makes it simple to increase the volume of a YouTube video or your preferred podcast if it is too low.

The Google Chrome browser’s Ears equalizer can be used with any open online page. Ears can increase the volume so long as the website is playing audio.

Other extensions exist that can do this, but I think Ears is the best since it has a straightforward volume bar on the left. When you start, it will be set to the maximum set by your computer. To increase the volume, click and drag it upward.

You will hear more distortion the higher you drag the volume booster. When voices start to tremble or the bass thud sounds harsh rather than deep, I’d suggest pausing. Those are indications that the speakers are being pushed beyond what is healthy for them.

Of course, Ears also functions as an equalizer, allowing you to increase certain frequencies. If hearing people’s voices is your major complaint, consider boosting just the necessary frequencies. In the EQ dashboard, it would often be in the 80, 160, or 320 marks.

How to Boost Volume for Videos on a Chromebook

Your volume-boosting choices are limited to the applications you use if you’ve downloaded a movie to view offline.

Don’t use the built-in Chrome video player. For Chrome, you must download Android applications. So far, VLC and MX Player have provided me with the most constant results.

VLC: For Boosting and Equalizing sound

One of our longtime favourites, VLC, is capable of playing whatever file you throw at it. It’s one of the top Android desktop applications (and Chrome). The audio increase option is, however, a bit difficult to find.

Here’s how to make any file louder using VLC for Android:

  • Click the screen to display the playback bar after the video has started.
  • Click Options in the playback bar (the three-dot icon).
  • That causes a tiny black window to appear over the video. Select Equalizer by clicking the button that has three lines and buttons on it.
  • You can now increase the volume since you are finally in VLC’s equalization. The volume meter is the horizontal bar at the top; move it to the right to increase it.
  • You can substitute the equalization for the general volume increase, just like with the EQ. Try switching to the “Live” option for the majority of movies; you should often see an improvement without having your speakers compromised.

MX Player

The greatest all-in-one video player for Android can be MX Player. What most people would check for is how easily it can increase loudness beyond the maximum.

Start any video file in MX Player, then to increase the volume, use the trackpad or touchscreen by swiping up and down with two fingers.

The simplest method to do the task is to use MX Player, which can increase the volume to twice what your current maximum is.

Note: MX Player’s volume boost feature is turned on by default. If it still doesn’t work, check that Volume Boost is selected under Menu > Tools > Settings > Audio.

How to boost Music Volume on a Chromebook

To listen to music on a Chromebook, you would often need an online music streaming service. And in such a scenario, you can always increase the volume using the aforementioned Ears addon.

But some applications can aid you if you prefer offline music or have no other option (like when you’re on a plane and must plug in your headphones).

Downloading Enjoy Music Player is advised for Chromebook desktop users who aren’t connected to the internet for their music demands. Additionally, Enjoy has a built-in equalizer with a volume increase.

  1. Toggle the equalization on.
  2. By clicking the toggle, turn it on (it should turn blue).
  3. To increase the volume, click and drag the Preamp button upwards.

Get a Bluetooth speaker

All of these methods will unnaturally increase the volume of your Chromebook past its maximum, but as I indicated at the outset, use them sparingly. Your speakers may get harmed if you use the artificial boost excessively.

You might be better off purchasing a set of high-quality and reasonably priced Bluetooth speakers if the volume on your Chromebook is really low and you often use it for media.
