How to flip screen on Chromebook (Easy Steps)

How to flip screen on Chromebook

In this post, we’ll go through how to rotate the screen on a Chromebook in two different ways: in the Settings app and on-the-fly when you need it. If you use a second device, it also contains instructions on flipping the screen on it.

How to flip a Chromebook’s Screen Quickly Using the Keyboard

By pressing and holding CTRL+Shift and the Refresh key on your keyboard, you may quickly and easily rotate your screen.

The Refresh key is situated directly above the numbers 3 and 4 on your keyboard and resembles a circle with an arrow on it. Your screen will turn 90 degrees clockwise each time you do this.

A popup will appear the first time you hit that key combination and ask you whether you wish to rotate your screen. Then click Next.

Rotating the Screen in Settings

You may alter the rotation of your screen in the settings if you would rather choose one rotation to use consistently.

  • Select Settings by clicking the timepiece.
  • Navigate to Device > Displays.
  • Click the drop-down box next to Orientation. You may now choose your preferred orientation and go on.

The Orientation drop-down box will be muted if your Chromebook is a 2-in-1 and you have the screen fully extended in the tablet configuration.

Flip the screen’s orientation into laptop mode to choose an orientation. Chromebooks’ tablet mode overrides the display settings’ orientation.

How to flip a Chromebook’s Second Display

These two techniques also function with secondary monitors. The keyboard command still functions even if you have a second monitor connected.

You would need to move your mouse to the display you wish to rotate as the position of the cursor determines the rotation direction.

Each monitor will have its tab in the settings menu under Settings > Devices > Displays. To change the orientation of a single screen, click on either tab.

The orientations of the two displays don’t have to be the same.

Important Notes on Chromebooks’ Flip Screen

When you adjust the orientation of your screen, that setting is retained even after a restart.

If the Chromebook is a 2-in-1, the only option to override the orientation setting is to turn it into tablet mode.

It’s also vital to keep in mind that the trackpad’s orientation and directions might vary.

For instance, when you slide your finger up on the trackpad after rotating the screen 90 degrees, the pointer will travel from left to right as it moves near the top of the screen. This is undoubtedly confusing, so be ready for that. This is simpler to fix if you have a Chromebook with a touchscreen.
