Though they originally gained popularity on cell phones, emojis are just as useful on PCs. Emoji are also available on Chromebooks and Chrome OS tablets as well. 

In this guide, we’ll show you how to use emojis on your Chromebook and where to locate them.

Emoji may differ from that on a smartphone while typing on a laptop. It’s also compatible with Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks. So, whenever you want that additional touch that only an emoji can provide, they’re easy to use.

How to use emoji on your Chromebook

Chrome OS comes with the Google emoji collection. Therefore, there is no need to download any kind of third-party program to use emojis on a Chromebook. 

Compared to other operating systems like Windows and macOS, Chrome OS makes it very simple to access emojis. Emojis may be installed on a Chromebook in three simple methods.

Use a mouse or trackpad

The easiest method for adding emojis on a Chromebook is this. Move the cursor to the text area where you want to put the emoji on a Chromebook to use your mouse or trackpad to add emojis. Emojis may be selected with a right-click on the text box.

A keyboard with emoticons will appear. To use an emoji, scroll until you locate it, then click it. However, the emoji keyboard vanishes after a single click, so you’ll have to repeat the procedure if you want to use it again.

Use the keyboard

There is a keyboard shortcut for the emoji keyboard. Emojis may be added by dragging the mouse to the desired text box and clicking it. Press Space, Shift, and Search/Launcher.

A keyboard with emoji will appear. To use an emoji, scroll until you locate it, then click it. You must repeatedly hit the keyboard shortcut to bring up the emoji keyboard if you want to enter several emojis.

Use your on-screen keyboard

If you have a Chromebook with a touchscreen, you should use this technique. If you often use emojis, it’s preferable to the other methods. 

The on-screen keyboard that comes with Chrome OS is quite similar to the Gboard that we are all acquainted with from Android. 

This can be enabled with a single click, unlike the emoji keyboard we’ve used in the techniques before, and it doesn’t go away after selecting one emoji.

Open the Settings app on your Chromebook to activate the on-screen keyboard. Click Advanced in the left menu window. In the enlarged advanced settings, click Accessibility.

Click on Manage accessibility features. Go to the keyboard and text input area and choose Enable on-screen keyboard by clicking the toggle.

The virtual keyboard button will appear on the bottom right, next to the clock, as soon as the on-screen keyboard has been activated.

To access the keyboard, click it. To access the emoji area, click the smiling face emoji button in the bottom row, on the left.

Click the emoji you wish to use. Then, click the close keyboard button in the bottom right corner of the keyboard to shut it off.
